Must-See Video: Chance, SZA, Miguel & More Perform Emotional Tribute To Mac Miller

Before his untimely death on September 7th, Mac Miller was scheduled to perform at the Greek Theater on October 31st. The show went on without him — and instead his friends performed a tribute to the rapper honoring his memory.

The show, titled “Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life,” brought together Miller’s musician friends in a beautiful way. In addition, proceeds from the event benefitted a charity formed in Miller’s honor, Mac Miller Circles Fund (MMCF).

The list of performers was as impressive as Mac himself. Travis Scott, SZA, Chance the Rapper, John Mayer, Vince Staples, Anderson.Paak, Miguel, Ty Dolla $ign and more hit the stage to either perform a song from Miller’s collection or one of their own that reminded them of the Pittsburgh MC. According to USA Today, here was the rundown:

JOHN MAYER

Mayer played a cover of Miller’s “Small Worlds,” and even kept the late artist’s voice on part of the backing track.

VINCE STAPLES

Staples performed his song with Miller, “Rain,” and Miller’s voice was heard rapping the lyrics.

ANDERSON.PAAK

Paak drummed and sang “Dang!” – even though he knew it would “hurt” to play his song with Miller.

MIGUEL

Miguel duetted with Miller’s disembodied voice on “Weekend.”

TY DOLLA $IGN

Ty, who later jumped into the crowd and slammed an electric guitar, sang his Miller collaboration “Cinderella.”

NJOMZA

Njomza sang a new tune that seemed to be about Miller, with lyrics that likely referenced his latest album “Swimming,” and included lyrics like “I call your name and hear no sound.”

SCHOOLBOY Q

Q played “THat Part,” which, he says, was partially written when Miller was in the studio with him.

While each individual performance was heartfelt and beautiful, it was the collective tribute at the end that was truly touching. Each artist stood on stage, comforting Mac’s mother Karen, while Miller’s voice could be heard thanking the crowd and singing “Best Day Ever”. Watch the emotional video below.
