Rihanna, Amy Schumer & More … Stars Say No To Super Bowl To Support Kaepernick

Don’t talk about it, be about it — just like Rihanna, Amy Schumer and Jay Z. These stars said no to the Super Bowl, and major money, to support Colin Kaepernick and his #takeaknee movement.

Kaepernick has been fighting the good fight, bringing awareness to social injustices, since kneeling on the NFL sidelines in 2016. And now, more than ever, he’s getting the support behind him to keep the movement going, even though he has essentially been banned from the NFL.

Recently, stars have taken aim at the Super Bowl, vowing to not be involved in any capacity due to the league’s response to Kaepernick’s fight. According to US Weekly, Ri Ri turned down the Super Bowl halftime gig — one worth $2 million — in an effort to stand with Kaep!

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” the insider revealed to the mag. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

Stars took to Twitter to show their support for Rih:

Also, in a show of solidarity, and inspiration from Rihanna, actress Amy Schumer announced that she too would be supporting Kaepernick by removing herself from any involvement in SB LIII.

Friday thought. I wonder why more white players aren’t kneeling. Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders. Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit? I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri Did. I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year. I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice but it’s all i got. Hitting the nfl with the advertisers is the only way to really hurt them. I know opposing the nfl is like opposing the nra. Very tough, but don’t you want to be proud of how you’re living? Stand up for your brothers and sisters of color. And the hottest thing a guy can do is get down on one knee. Not to propose but to reject the treatment of his teammates by this country. Anyone who says its disrespectful to our military please read up on the fact that a lot of veterans are proud of what @kaepernick7 is doing and fully support him. What are your thoughts?

But, let’s not forget Jay Z also turned down a hefty Super Bowl check in support of Kaep in 2017. In news revealed on his joint album with his wife Beyonce, Everything Is Love, Jigga claims to have given the NFL a big F-U when they wanted him to perform during the once-coveted halftime show. On the song “Apesh!t”, the NY MC rapped, “I said no to the Super Bowl / You need me, I don’t need you / Every night we in the endzone / Tell the NFL we in stadiums too.

This big show is set to have Maroon 5 perform during halftime. There have also been rumors that Cardi B will make an appearance. Wonder if she’ll still go through with it…
