As family and friends continue to confirm Aretha Franklin’s ailing health, those who love her most have come to say their goodbyes — while still praying for a healing.
Franklin, also known as the Queen of Soul, is currently “resting at home” according to her nephew Tim Franklin, and has received visits from longtime friends Stevie Wonder and Rev. Jesse Jackson. In addition, Franklin’s ex-husband Glynn Turman also visited her Detroit home to show his love and support. Aretha and the “A Different World” star were married from 1978 to 1984.
The “Respect” singer’s publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, confirmed that Ms. Franklin, “is seriously ill and surrounded by family members who appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received.”
And speaking of an “outpouring of love”, Beyonce and Jay Z showed just that during the Detroit stop of their “On The Run II” tour Monday night. As the superstar couple took the stage, Bey stated, “This show is dedicated to Aretha Franklin. We love you and thank you.” Additionally, “OTR II” opener DJ Khaled got folks hype by leading the crowd in a sing-a-long to Franklin’s smash hit “Respect”, stating, “Make some noise for Aretha Franklin.”
The nature of Ms. Franklin’s illness has not been disclosed, although several outlets have reported that she is battling cancer. But, the prayers continue for Aretha, most recently with a vigil held at the Detroit church where her father was once a pastor. The special ceremony at New Bethel Baptist Church began before dawn on Wednesday morning.
