New details are emerging about funeral arrangements and burial plans for the late Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
HipHollywood has learned exclusively that the 76-year-old music icon’s body was moved on Friday to a funeral home in preparation for her homegoing services and extra security has been added.
Franklin will be laid to rest on Aug. 31 in her hometown of Detroit. The service will be held at 10 a.m. local time at Greater Grace Temple according to her publicist Gwendolyn Quinn. It will be limited to Franklin’s family and friends, and selected guests, and is expected to draw dignitaries, musicians and other high-profile figures from around the world.
Members of the public will be able to pay their respects at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where Franklin will lay in state on Aug. 28 and Aug. 29.
Franklin will be entombed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, along with her father Rev. C.L. Franklin; sisters Carolyn Franklin and Erma Franklin; brother Cecil Franklin; and nephew Thomas Garrett.
A death certificate has also been released, and it officially cites pancreatic cancer as her cause of death, confirming what Franklin’s publicist said in her statement the day before.
Rumors started that Franklin had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in 2010, but the singer never publicly confirmed that she was sick. Franklin died on Thursday, August 16 at her home in Bloomfield Hill, Michigan.
