Big FREEdia Indeed — Bounce Queen Cries After Getting Off Probation

It was a two year battle but Big Freedia can finally say she’s free!

In 2016, Freedia, aka Freddie Ross Jr., pleaded guilty to theft of government funds for lying about her income and fraudulently receiving about $35,000 worth of Section 8 housing vouchers from 2010-2014. Subsequently, the “Queen Diva” was sentenced to three years probation, a $35,000 fine and 100 hours of community service.

However, the Bounce Queen’s lawyers went to work; fighting for to end her probation early, citing that she’s stayed out of trouble, drug-free and completed more than the required community service — and it worked! Freedia’s probation ended a year early and it sent the legend into tears.

This is definitely the cherry on top of an already amazing year for Big Freedia. Not only did she score major vocals in Drake’s song “Nice For What”, she was also featured in his latest video “In My Feelings”. And even though when we spoke to her at the BET Awards and she said she wasn’t “fighting” for representation in visuals, it was still dope to see it happen.

Congrats, Big Freedia!
