The moment you’ve been waiting for — Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, same building, same time.
After several sub-shots over the last few days, folks were on edge waiting to see how the MTV VMAs would play out with both Bardi and Barbie in the same room. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper opened the show, though she didn’t perform, while the “Pink Friday” femcee hit the stage and performed a few songs from her new album, “Queen”. But, the real question is, did the shots continue?
To answer that question — hell yes, they did! Take Cardi for instance. The show began with the newly-minted mother of Kulture on stage with what looked to be a baby in her arms. She made references to being an empress — likened to a “Queen” — and alluded to a big surprise in her baby blanket. No, it was not her 1-month-old daughter; instead it was a Moonman.
But the shots were fired when Cardi accepted her award for Best New Artist. In her speech she thanked her fans who supply her with endless, authentic love. “It’s genuine, it’s beautiful and that’s something that God gives me that you can’t buy, b!tch.” Oop! Now that was a direct shot at the Barbz who has been on Twitter as of late knocking Cardi’s success as something money, not talent, bought.
So, how did Ms. Minaj follow that act? Well, when she won her Moonman for Best Hip Hop video she kept it cute and told folks, “Tune in to Queen Radio so you can know who the c*k-sucker of the day award is going to. Love you!”
And when she hit the stage to perform, the raptress brought the heat with “Majesty”, “Barbie Dreams”, followed by her subliminally-loaded freestyle and more.
How long to you think these ladies will go tit-for-tat?
