As if their OTR II tour wasn’t enough, The Carters are taking time out to bless the folks in South Africa with something extra special.
Bey and Jay have signed on to headline the Global Citizen Festival in honor of Nelson Mandela later this year. According to the organizer’s, the concert, to be held in Johannesburg on December 2nd, “is part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid leader.”
Not only will the “Everything Is Love” duo hit the stage, but Usher, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran and African artists Wizkid, Cassper Nyovest, Femi Kuti and more are scheduled to perform.
Oh, but there is more! Oprah Winfrey will give a keynote address on the legacy of the Nobel Peace Prize winner and other hosts will include Mandela’s “honorary granddaughter” Naomi Campbell, Forest Whitaker and Tyler Perry.
The Global Citizen movement aims to end extreme poverty by 2030. In this effort, its Mandela 100 campaign hopes to bring in $1 billion in new pledges.
