Will Smith certainly lives life to the fullest, but he does have one major regret.

On Wednesday as the world celebrated the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela, Smith shared a special video about the late South African President and revealed his biggest regret was NOT working with Mandela more closely on his humanitarian efforts.

Smith shared a 1 minute video on his Instagram page featuring pictures and video of him and Madiba during a trip with his wife Jada in 2005. According to the Men In Black actor, he and the Nobel Peace Prize winning activist were extremely close and he made several trips to visit him, but didn’t take him up on his offer to stay with him for an extended period of time out of fear.

“When I was with Madiba on this trip he pulled me aside and he asked me to stay with him for a while,” said Smith. “He said that he had a great mission for me, and that he had some things to teach me. I felt so unworthy of his attention and so wildly unprepared for the responsibility of his wisdom that I ran. And I’m not really a man that is prone to regret, but not staying with him is one of the greatest regrets of my life.”

Smith captioned the video: “Today would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th Birthday! He pops up in my dreams every once in a while smilin’ like… Let’s Get To Work, Willy. (He always called me Willy.) Happy Bday, Madiba.”

Mandela passed in December 2013 at the age of 95. He became president of South Africa in 1994 after serving 27 years in prison and was focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid and combating poverty and HIV/AIDS.
