Meet Therese Patricia Okoumou.
Okoumo was arrested on Wednesday (Independence Day) for scaling the base of the Statue of Liberty in protest against U.S. immigration policy.
Therese’s passion for the cause comes honestly, as she too is an immigrant. The 44-year-old, who has lived in Staten Island for the past decade, was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo. And, as evidenced by her shirt, she’s a member of the anti-Trump group, Rise & Resist. But they claim they were in the dark about the protest telling the NY Daily News, “No one in the group knew this was going to happen. We don’t know if she did it on the spur of the moment or if she had been planning it beforehand.”
Check out the shocking video below — Theres was arrested and charged with federal trespassing and disorderly conduct among other charges. She’s scheduled to be arraigned in Manhattan Federal Court on Thursday.
