Michelle Williams is engaged! The Destiny’s Child singer, 37, and Chad Johnson, 40, have been engaged for a month, but now, the couple is ready to unveil all the engagement details.
“We could not contain this any longer,” Williams told People magazine about her new fiancé, whom she met one year ago while at a spiritual retreat. “I was in a horrible, dark place … I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation — get connected to God.”
Johnson, a pastor and pro sports chaplain, was also going through an emotional time when he first met Williams. “Michelle was coming off the heels of a really bad relationship, and I was just in a place of despair as well,” he told People.
After building a relationship for three months before going on official date, they knew immediately that their search for love was over. “I told her, ‘I’ve been looking. I don’t want to look anymore. I’m done. My search is over,’” Chad said.
Considering their strong friendship and love, Chad knew he wanted to involve her family in the special proposal. Johnson not only got her family’s blessing to have Michelle’s hand in marriage, but he videotaped it to make sure he could incorporate it for the moment he pooped the question.
So while at dinner, which so happened to be the night the two first started flirt texting one year prior, he showed the singer the video and you know what ensued. “I started weeping and wailing when I see all these special people,” Williams said. “Towards the end of the video, something in my head said, ‘Pull yourself together! He’s about to propose! Stop all this crying!’”
Sure enough, he popped the question and presented her with a 5-carat engagement ring from L.A. jeweler Denis Mahgerefteh.
Michelle has been very open about her relationship with Chad, even recently sharing a snap of them singing at the Dodgers game together. She also posted the sweetest photo of her running into her man’s arms following her Coachella performance last weekend. What fans didn’t know in that moment that he was actually her FIANCÉ!
That amazing feeling of getting off the stage, running back to the dressing room and I see someone standing there waiting for me! I always wondered how our worlds would mesh. Soooooooo sorry I jumped on you but I’m glad to know you have muscles to hold me! You so stronnnnnnnng! 😂😂 I’ve waited yeeeeeeears for someone who could come in to my world and be CONFIDENT and NOT insecure, love who I love and genuinely be there for people!! This will be the first marriage for both Williams and Johnson. Chad is currently living in Phoenix, but when the two tie the knot, he will move to Los Angeles to be with his wife.
