Michael B. Jordan is waiting for a specific moment to meet the man who shares his name, NBA legend, Michael Jordan.

In the latest issue of Men’s Health, the Black Panther star explained that he wants to be on a different level mentally before greeting the greatest basketball player of all time.

“I never met Michael Jordan. I never want to officially meet him until I’m at a point where he knows who I am and I know who he is,” he explained. “And it would be our mutual respect thing. Until then it would just be a ‘this guy has your name, ha ha.’ I don’t want that. So that pushes me to keep working too. These things motivate me.”

According to the dapper star, sharing Jordan’s name was difficult; especially when he couldn’t measure up to something. “I’m competitive. I want to compete in anything I do,” the 31-year-old said.

He continued, “That came from my name. Growing up in sports and having a name like Michael Jordan and being teased, I had to compete. I couldn’t be the guy with the name and not be good at it. That carried over to everything. I’m like, I’ve got to be just as great if not greater than he was in his field.”

The actor does share one other thing in common with Jordan, and that’s to make a lasting impression on generations to come. “Life is short, you know? I want to leave something behind,” he told the publication.

He added, “A blueprint. A work ethic. Something that my great-grandkids and their kids and their kids can see: This is where it started. Lineage. Intergenerational wealth. Things that are here forever. All that.”

As for whether or not his parents named their son after Jordan, not exactly — instead, he as named after his father, Michael A. Jordan.

Well considering the level of success Michael B. now has, our guess is that the retied NBA icon is well aware of who he is.
