Freedom is a bit bittersweet for Meek Mill.
Five months after being tossed in jail (for violating his probation by popping a wheelie) and being denied bail, the rapper was finally released on Tuesday when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered his immediate release. But, in his own words, he doesn’t feel “free.” “I haven’t felt free since I caught this case at the age of 19,” Mill told NBC’s Lester Holt in his first interview since being released.
Unfortunately, for Meek his release isn’t the end of a long, hard-fought battle; it’s more like the beginning of what could be the fight for his life. Currently, the 30-year-old MC is out on unsecured bail. But his appeal over the two- to four-year prison sentence he received for violating probation on a 2008 gun and drug case still looms.
Luckily, Meek seems energized and ready for the battle … and the added responsibility that comes with being the face of the fight for criminal justice reform. Just take a look at his interview below and see!
