J. Cole has been teasing his new album KOD for days and now, the project is finally here.

The rapper released his fifth studio album on Friday morning which was a follow up to his 2016 LP 4 Your Eyez Only.

Ahead of the 12 track project, Cole released a trailer to coincide with the content and album title, which stands for three different things. One meaning behind the acronym KOD is “kids on drugs.”

“If I turn on the TV right now, it’s not gonna take long for there to be an advertisement that pops up that says, ‘Are you feeling down? Have you been having lonely thoughts?'” Cole says on the trailer. “And then they shove a pill in your face. The first response of any problems is medicate.”

The second meanings is “king overdosed” which for Cole is “representing me, the times that I was, and am, afflicted by the same methods of escape.”

The third means “kill our demons,” which is the “end goal, to face our shit, realize that we have some shit going on inside. Everybody… because nobody’s fucking perfect.”

“KOD”, which is the second track on the album, sets the tone for the project and it becomes immediately clear that the following 10 tracks are going to be pure fire.
