The Cast Of ‘The Bobby Brown Story’ Announced … Who’s Playing Whitney?!

The cast of The Bobby Brown Story has just gotten a lot more interesting!

Following the success of The New Edition Story last year, BET announced that their next biopic project would focus on the group’s standout member, Bobby Brown, and how he propelled to solo superstardom. In that announcement, they revealed Woody McClain would reprise his role as Bobby, but the rest of the cast was a mystery — until now.

Mekhi Phifer, Lil Rel Howery, Laz Alonso and Lance Gross have been added to the cast, in addition to T.K. Carter, Alyssa Goss and Sandi McCree. Production began today in Atlanta.

Deadline reports: “Phifer plays Tommy Brown, Bobby’s brother. Howery is Brian Irvine, Bobby’s business manager. Carter plays Herbert “Pops” Brown, Bobby’s father. Alonso is Louil Silas Jr, an MCA producer-executive who helps make Bobby a solo star. Gross is set as Steven Sealy, a childhood friend of Bobby’s who is killed in a gunfight after hanging with him at a hometown bar. Goss plays Bobby’s current wife, Alicia Etheridge, and McCree will reprise her New Edition Story as Bobby’s mother Carole Brown.”

While that’s a lot of info on the casting there is still one glaringly obvious omission … who’s playing Brown’s ex-wife, legendary singer Whitney Houston?? They may be holding that big reveal until later (or maybe they still haven’t casted the role) but here’s a few ladies we think could handle the role…

Rhyon Nicole Brown – She’s a singer, an actress and she favors Nippy. Plus, we’d think she’d kill it!

Demetria McKinney – She’s already had experience playing the role so doing it again should feel like riding a bike. Plus, her vocals are the truth.

Deborah Cox – Although it would be tough for her to play a younger Whitney standing next to Woody McClain, we just loved her so much in the role of Rachel Marron in the “Bodyguard” stage play that we’d like to see her take on the role on the small screen as well.

Who do you think could kill the role?

The Bobby Brown Story is set to air in a two-night special on BET in September.
