Melanin Magic: Black Women Show Up & Shine Bright For 11th Annual BWIH Awards



It’s that time of year again! The 11th annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards is THE premiere pre-Oscars event, but you don’t have to take our word for it.

HipHollywood hit the black carpet for the time honored event created by Essence magazine and caught up with some of this year’s guests and honorees, who were proud to celebrate and fellowship for an afternoon with some of their favorite Black women.

This year, Essence also paid tribute to four Hollywood game changers – Danai Guirira, Tessa Thompson, Tiffany Haddish and Lena Waithe.

The Real host Loni Love said she came especially to support fellow comedienne Tiffany Haddish.

Meanwhile Lupita Nyong’o flew in on her birthday just to present the award to Danai Gurira.

Tina Knowles who showed up in this dazzling pink suit told us the event is her all time favorite.

Janelle Moane looked fierce in her signature black and white.

Actress Yvonne Orji (HBO’s Insecure) hosted the event and said it also holds a special place for Black women because they often aren’t celebrated at mainstream awards shows.

Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards will air in primetime on OWN Saturday, March 3, at 10 p.m.
