Mary J. Blige isn’t letting the drama from her nasty divorce to ex-husband Kendu Isaacs stop her hustle. The Oscar nominated actress told HipHollywood exclusively that she’s planning to get back in the studio once she finishes filming Umbrella Academy for Netflix.
“I’m not pausing on music,” she said at Alfre Woodard’s Oscars Sistah’s Soiree where she was being honored. “I’m going to shoot [Umbrella Academy] and come back and hit the studio. It’s going to take me a while but I’m going right back in because why not.”
On Friday, Blige and her former husband and manager quietly settled their divorce for an undisclosed amount. Details in the settlement were not made public, but days earlier it was revealed that Blige didn’t make a penny from her role in Mudbound and owed a whopping $25 million in advances.
She told HipHollywood that despite her financial and marital woes she still has plenty of reasons to smile. “I have no control over the darkness, it’s there so I just surrender and except it and let God handle the rest, and the rest is beautiful. ”
Blige filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences after 12 years of marriage. In June, she was ordered to pay $30,000 a month in temporary spousal support after Isaacs’ request for $100,000 was denied.
Via court documents she revealed she wasn’t pulling in the same money from touring because she is now considered a “legacy artist” and her expenses out weighed her earnings.
