DMX is about to spend the next 365 days behind bars. Yes, people, the rapper is headed back to prison.

On Wednesday, a Manhattan judge sentenced the troubled artist to a year in prison for tax evasion.

Despite the ruling, we have to give credit to the rapper’s attorneys who went as far as to play X’s hit track “Slipping’ to prove that he truly is a good man.

Unfortunately, the music didn’t quite move Judge Jed S. Rakoff. In fact, the judge claimed that the offense of Earl Simmons, the rapper’s legal name, is a “particularly brazen and blatant” crime.

“In the court’s view Mr. Simmons is a good man, a very far from perfect man,” Rakoff said. “In many ways he is, to give the cliché, his own worst enemy.”

Despite moving the court with the music and mere acceptance of doing wrong, he was still sentenced to a year followed by three years of supervised release. Earl was also ordered to make $2.29 million in restitution to the government

In November, X entered a guilty plea to one count of tax evasion.
