‘Black Panther’ Dethroned! Why T’Challa And Crew Are Still No. 1 Even Though They Slipped To 2nd Place

Yes, our allegiance to Wakanda is forever, but our rank as No. 1 at the box office is not. After dominating ticket sales for the past six weeks, Black Panther’s reign has come to an end. Sales for the new Pacific Rim flick hit $25 million for its opening weekend, while BP scored $17 mil … still an impressive feat for a film that is over a month old.

In addition, Black Panther locked in an even more prestigious title than top spot at the box office. Marvel’s action-packed project, the first of its kind with a predominately Black cast, is now the highest-grossing superhero film of all time. Of. ALL. TIME!!! With over $624 million at the domestic box office since its February 16th arrival, the Ryan Cooler-directed film surpassed the record previously held by The Avengers in 2012, with $623 million in ticket sales.

Oh, and let’s not forget the worldwide numbers. Sitting pretty at $1.2 billion, that’s billions with a “B”, Black Panther is poised to take the No. 3 spot on the global list.

That deserves a round of applause … and another trip to the movie theater.
