Hypebeast, hold on to your hats! Your fave just teamed up with your fave … and they’re making history.

Louis Vuitton announced on Monday that it’s bringing on Virgil Abloh as its new artistic director of menswear. “I think of it as kind of the ultimate collaboration,” Abloh told The New York Times.

“This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”

Abloh, who has been the creator of cool since launching his heavily sought after brand Off-White in 2013, is the first Black artistic director at Louis Vuitton. The man with the Midas touch is also one of the few African-Americans (he is a first-generation Ghanaian-American, raised in Illinois) at the top of the European fashion houses (Rousteing at Balmain and Boateng at Givenchy previously opened doors).

“Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment,” Michael Burke, chief executive of Louis Vuitton, told The New York Times.

Kayne West’s former creative director plans to hit the ground running at LV. He’s compiling an eight-page “brand manual” to “define new codes” at the storied luxury brand. Abloh will undoubtedly bring his Midas touch along as well, hopefully merging his panache for modern streetwear with the iconic, classic look of Louis Vuitton. Hell, maybe well even get a zip-tie on a messenger bag (we kid).

Those who are fans of Off-White shouldn’t worry though, Virgil promises that his new role with Vuitton won’t stop him from designing for his popular brand. Unfortunately though, he won’t have the same time for alllll the jobs on his resume which currently includes DJ-ing.

Are you guys hype for this collabo or are your wallets crying from poorness?
