Taraji P. Henson is over the moon about the latest Barbie doll based off of her Hidden Figures character, Katherine Johnson.
Barbie recently unveiled a line of dolls representing legendary and “Inspiring Women” throughout history, including Johnson, who was portrayed by Henson in the Academy Award-nominated film.
After learning of the new Barbie collection, Henson was practically speechless. “Just WOW,” she tweeted.
Johnson is the Black iconic mathematician most known for her trajectory calculations for NASA during the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the moon. Johnson, 99, also was completely hands on during the making of the doll to ensure her personal features were on point.
“As a brand that inspires the limitless potential in girls, Barbie will be honoring its largest line up of role models timed to International Women’s Day, because we know that you can’t be what you can’t see,” senior vice president and general manager of Barbie, Lisa McKnight, said. “Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything.”
The line, which consists of 14 dolls, also includes Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, Chloe Kim and Nicola Adams OBE. See below to see the full list of inspirational women.
