News flash: Kim Kardashian is not Indian; which might explain why the Internet is up in arms about the reality star landing on the cover of Vogue India.
The high end fashion publication came under fire on Monday after the unveiling of the mag’s March issue which features Kim, who is of Armenian descent.
The mother of three took to social media to show off two covers she shot for the magazine; but folks were trying to figure why someone from South Asia could not have been featured.
The same thing happened back in 2017 when the publication decided to put Kim’s younger sister, Kendall Jenner, on the cover of their May issue. At the time, the fashion magazine said in a statement:
“In the last 10 years, Vogue India has had only 12 international covers, including Kendall Jenner in 2017. Therefore, statistically, 90% of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that. India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on over covers. Occasionally!”
There are, however, many reactions by people who support the cover. Some people are thrilled to see Kim wearing a traditional lehenga; others are suggesting all Vogue publications use people of all nationalities and from overseas.
