The mother of the young H&M model who went viral this week is finally speaking out.

Terry Mango of Sweden, responded via social media to the photo of who she says is her son, modeling a H&M sweatshirt that reads: “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle.”

“[I] am the mum and this is one of [the] hundreds of outfits my son has modeled,” she wrote in a comment on Instagram. “Stop crying wolf all the time. ”She then wrote on Facebook, “that’s my son. [I have] been to all the photoshoots and this was not an exception.”

When asked if she understood why folks were offended by the perceived racist ad, she explained, “I really don’t understand but not coz am choosing not to but because it’s not my way of thinking, sorry.”

The photo picked up international attention and even led to major celebrities ending their relationships with the popular chain.

The Weeknd was the first to pull the plug, tweeting: “Woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. i’m deeply offended and will not be working with anymore.”

G-Eazy also cut his ties with H&M, writing on Instagram: “Over the past months I was genuinely excited about launching my upcoming line and collaboration with @HM… Unfortunately, after seeing the disturbing image yesterday, my excitement over our global campaign quickly evaporated, and I’ve decided at this time our partnership needs to end. Whether an oblivious oversight or not, it’s truly sad and disturbing that in 2018, something so racially and culturally insensitive could pass by the eyes of so many (stylist, photographer, creative and marketing teams) and be deemed acceptable.”

In the wake of the controversial image, it was also reported that Diddy was set to offer a Sean John modeling contract to the young boy.
