Kenrick Lamar said it best on Sunday night during one of his acceptance speeches: “Jay for President.”
Jay Z stopped by for an interview with CNN’s Van Jones over the weekend and while talking about Donald Trump and the Black unemployment rate, Jay spoke like a true President. So we ask: Can the New York native run this nation?
Here are five things we learned from Jay’s interview with Van, including, how he feels about middle America and the voting process.
Response To President Trump’s “Every African Country Is A Shithole Country” Comment: “It’s disappointing and it’s hurtful more so. Everyone feels anger, but after the anger, it’s hurtful because you are looking down on a whole population of people,” he said. “This is the leader of the free world speaking like this.”
He explained, “This has been going on. This is how people talk behind closed doors.” That’s when Jay referred to Trump as a superbug. While discussing raise, he used the analogy of spraying perfume on a trash can. “When you do that, the bugs come and you spray something and you create a superbug because you don’t take care of the problem,” he said. You don’t take the trash out.”
Jay added, “Now we have Donald Trump, the superbug.”
Jay On Black Unemployment Rate: When asked about Trump making a change in the Black unemployment rate despite his disgusting and racist comments, Jay explained, “it’s not about money at the end of the day. Money doesn’t equate to happiness. You treat people like human beings.”
He continued, “On a democrat side, that’s what opened the door for this sort of presidency. For many years, middle America voted democrat because that’s what their family did. Their needs weren’t addressed … it became about votes not people.”
“There’s real people behind these decisions that they are making … real time and real pain,” the rapper continued. “When you ignore that pain for so long, they’ll act out. That opens the door for what we are living through now.”
Blue Ivy Has Been Here Before?: Jay Z believes that his 5-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, is an old spirit and has “been here before.” The rapper explained during his interview with Van that “she’s so intune with her feelings and how other people feel.” He explained that recently, Blue saw a fire from in the distance from their home and “she started crying and said I don’t anyone to be hurt.”
Hopeful For His Daughters Futures: Now as a father of two daughters, Jay is hopeful for them both. While discussing the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, he explained, “the amount of information that we will give them and the amount of move, between those two things, they’ll be fine.”
Life with Twins: “We are in a beautiful time now because they are seven months and they can’t move,” he joked.
