On Tuesday morning, Dee Rees’ critically acclaimed film, Mudbound, received a number of nominations, including Mary J. Blige for Best Supporting Actress and Dee for Best Adapted Screenplay.
But there was one name that’s been completely left out from not only the Oscars, but the entire award season: Jason Mitchell.
Mitchell played a major role in Mudbound; in fact, the film was centered around his character as a young Black man home from war in the South. But why has Mitchell not received love?
This is not the first time Jason has been snubbed. You might recall back in 2016, there was a major uproar over the actor being overlooked for his role as Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton.
That was the same year as “Oscars so White”, but despite the year’s lack of diversity and inclusion, fans were livid over Mitchell’s oversight.
This year, however, while diversity was not an issue, what was it about Jason’s performance that didn’t capture the attention of Academy voters?
But putting emotions aside, he did make sure to praise his co-stars and filmmakers for their big nominations.
