We’re not going to lie, when our girl MJB didn’t score the SAG Award for her role in “Mudbound” we were instantly upset. But, let’s look at the silver-lining … Mary’s loss was still a win and here are 3 reasons why.
1) Notoriety: “Mudbound” wasn’t Mary J. Blige’s first foray into acting, but it was a career-defining role that put her in categories with the likes of her esteemed co-nominees Holly Hunter, Allison Janney, Laurie Metcalf and Hong Chau … not bad company, right? And honestly, Janey’s performance in “I, Tonya” was pretty phenomenal and tough competition.
2) Open Doors: Now that folks realize that Blige can deliver stellar performances, such as the one in “Mudbound” that got her the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role nod, it will undoubtedly lead to more opportunities for the legendary singer on the big and small screen. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Mary’s acting career.
3) More eyes on “Mudbound”: In case you didn’t know about “Mudbound” before awards season kicked off, you definitely know about it now, and that is in no small part due to Blige and her many nominations. Go watch it now on Netflix!
Congrats Mary, you are still a winner to us!
