Kandi Burruss is really headed to Broadway folks!
The singer and Real Housewives of Atlanta star announced to fans that she will play Matron “Mama” Morton in a revival of Chicago.
“I can officially announce that I will be performing as Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway January 15th- March 11th!” she posted on Instagram. “I’m so excited! Get your tickets now & check out the announcement on People.com #Thankful#Blessed #LivingMyBestLife#DreamsDoComeTrue”
Burruss made the initial announcement that she would be doing Broadway on Watch What Happens Live in November after host Andy Cohen asked if Xscape would be putting out new music.
“They are doing new music,” she said pointing to members LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott and Tameka Tiny Harris. “I’m going to be doing Broadway and some other things, and they’re going to be doing new music.”
Since, Xscape has not only recorded new music, but dropped two singles. HipHollywood reported the news first that the group also hired Vincent Herbert as their manager.
Meanwhile Burruss will entertain audiences for eight weeks at the Ambassador Theatre in NYC.
According to Playbill, the production stars Tony Award nominee Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, original cast member Leigh Zimmerman as Velma Kelly, YouTube sensation and Broadway star Todrick Hall (through Jan. 14 only) as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, LaVon Fisher-Wilson as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
