Serena Williams and what was supposed to be her new bundle of joy were set to star in a new Gatorade commercial, but things took a turn after the near three-month-old fell ill.
In the new visual, also starring Allison Williams and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, shows the tennis professional telling her baby girl that she doesn’t mind what she grows up to be; as long as “in this game of life, please keep playing no matter what … sports will teach you to be strong.”
In the near two minute spot, you see a sweet newborn, but it’s now being confirmed it’s a body double playing the role of Serena’s daughter, Alexis Olympia.
In an email sent to AdAge, a spokesperson explained that “While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set, but the sentiment remains the same.”
Williams didn’t refer to the stand-in baby, but she did share a photo from the commercial with the caption: “There are so many reasons to quit, but even more to keep playing. Even if you don’t go pro, sports can teach you so much. So keep playing.”
On September 1, Serena and her husband, Alexis Ohanaion, welcomed their first child together.
