Tyler Perry is joining a group of celebrities donating a large amount of money to help the city of Houston.
On Thursday, Perry announced that he will be giving a whopping $1 million to help the victims effected by Hurricane Harvey. Of that, $250k will go to Rudy Rasmus, Beyonce’s pastor, and Joel Osteen’s mega church, who is providing shelter for displaced families.
During the director’s pledge, he opened up about the drama surrounding Osteen and his 16,800-seat church in Houston. “I know that there’s been some controversy about Joel Osteen and him not opening the doors of the church,” Perry said.
He explained, “Joel and Victoria are amazing people — there’s no way that they would lock people out of the church or not let people seek shelter.”
Donald Trump also came out on Thursday and announced he was also giving $1million of his own money to the city.
Other stars who have donated money to help victims following the catastrophic hurricane is Beyonce, Kevin Hart, Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez and Kim Kardashian, who donated $500k.
Other stars who have given to relief efforts but opted out of disclosing just how much, include Oprah Winfrey and Lady Gaga.
