Tiffany Haddish has officially landed on the top of the list for funny leading ladies in Hollywood, which is why the actress is adamant about earning the same wages as her male counterparts. There are, however, a few exceptions.
“As a female comedian I feel like I should be paid the same as a male comedian. Maybe a little more because I bleed,” she told HipHollywood exclusively while on the red carpet for the 25th Anniversary of Def Comedy Jam.
Haddish also shared her thoughts on comedienne Amy Schumer’s latest efforts to renegotiate her contract for her Netflix The Leather Special after learning what Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle got paid for their comedy specials.
According to Variety, the iconic comedians got paid a cool $20 million for their series, while Amy got paid a $11 million.
Haddish explained that Dave and Chris are Legends and “deserve to be paid the maximum amount of money.” She continued, “They’ve been in way more comedy clubs, they’ve done way more shows, they got way more experience and they way more funnier. They funnier than Amy.”
Initial reports suggested Amy demanded and insisted she earn just as much as Chappelle and Rock, which set people off.
The female comic, however, denied the rumors and suggested via Instagram: “I believe women deserve equal pay. However I don’t believe I deserve equal pay to Chris and Dave … They are legends and 2 of the greatest comics of all time. I would like to say that I have been selling out arenas these last couple years. Something a female comic has never done. That’s a big deal to me, especially because I know I do my best every night on stage for the audience and they have a good time.”
