In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, John Boyega gushed that his Star Wars character, Finn, is finally a “BIG DEAL!”
The British actor, who is currently starring in Woyzek at The Old Vic Theater in London, couldn’t help but share his excitement about his character in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Last Jedi. He reminds Star Wars fans that his character, Finn, had to keep a low profile in Episode VII: The Force Awakens and downplay his role in helping Princess Leia and the Resistance.
“The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren.” Kylo Ren is the younger version of the iconic Darth Vader character, and obviously, battling with him has given Finn some serious street cred.
“Finn’s in a bad way at the end of VII. He has a lot of issues. He got slashed with a saber, and that took him down real hard, so he’s in a coma,” the actor says. “That suit, that whole thing helps him to recover. But we’re not sure whether that means he’ll wake up.”
Spoiler alert! The good news is that Finn DOES wake up!
Boyega goes into detail for die-hard Star Wars fans about how gruesome a light saber wound is, “Once it’s in, it continues to burn the skin and the cells. It’s not a piece of flame that whacks your body. It’s not something that works like a stab wound. It’s really brutal.”
So far, fans and critics have remained silent about the new film’s multicultural cast, including Kelly Marie Tran (Rose), whom Finn shares many scenes with.”
“It’s Finn and Rose, they’re on a massive adventure. It’s a big mission they need to complete,” hinted Boyega. “The Resistance is under immense pressure, and it’s time for them to get a bit of help. That’s where Finn and Rose come in, and they’re thrust into a crazy adventure.”
The Last Jedi is slated to hit Theaters in December 2017.
And if you happen to be in London, don’t miss his critically acclaimed performance in Woyzek at the Old Vic Theater.
