Ms. Tina Lawson and her hubby Richard Lawson hosted a star-studded fashion event that just may have rivaled the MET Gala on Saturday night.
The couple gathered a host of their Hollywood friends and superstar children for their Inaugural Wearable Art Gala held at the California African-American Museum and everyone definitely dressed to impress.
Momma Tina looked like a green goddess in a gown made from banana leaves — “not collared greens,” she captioned on Instagram — that she designed with Tim White. Wearable art, indeed.
The event benefited WACO Theater Center (Where Art Can Occur), a non-profit art and performance art center in L.A. and the couple raised nearly $1 million dollars.
“I am super proud of my beautiful mother for creating such an awesome event. Close to $1 million was raised for The WACO Theater Center to benefit young people through their mentorship programs and the arts,” Bey wrote on Instagram. “Mom, you inspire us all to be generous, selfless, positive, to have empathy, to love and to praise creativity in the world. It brought tears to my eyes to be a witness to what you and Richard have created together. WACO is a safe place truly Where Art Can Occur. I love you.”
Queen Bey definitely looked like a queen, rocking a floral head piece embellished with Lorraine Schwartz brooches and a red Stello by Stephanie Costello gown.
Hubby Jay Z (also pictured with Susan Taylor) wore a sky blue Gucci tuxedo.
Meanwhile, Solange made a statement in a merlot-hued pleated mini dress by Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake.
Kelly Rowland stole the show in a pastel purple gown with endless layers of ruffled tulle designed by Shaima Al Mansoori for Bahrain label Monsoori, and Jon Buscemi sneakers.
It was a Destiny’s Child reunion with Michelle Williams and LeToya Luckett turning out for the event.
Meagan Good and Aventar Gray (wife of pastor John Gray) turned out, looking gorgeous as well.
Tina’s stepdaughter, actress Bianca Lawson (Queen Sugar), turned out looking beautiful in blue.
The Johnsons, Magic, Cookie and E.J., also turned out for the event looking fab.
And then there were these gorgeous gals – Robbie Reed, Star Jones, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Debbie Morgan – who snapped a group selfie inside the venue.
We absolutely loved Tasha Smith in this lacey Valdrin Sahiti gown.
The lovely Maxine Waters was in attendance and snapped a photo with Rowland.
Serayah was pretty in pink in this Jenny Packman coat and dress.
And June Ambrose, of course, made a statement in this structured hot pink gown.
