Nick Cannon’s official replacement on America’s Got Talent has been named and the selection is one nobody saw coming. Supermodel Tyra Banks will host the show during its 12th season. The decision was announced on AGT’s official Twitter account on Sunday.

“Tyra is the complete package: Out-of-this-world talented, funny, brilliant and all heart. In whatever she has done, she has always connected with audiences around the world,” said Paul Telegdy, president of NBC Entertainment’s alternative and reality group. “Her vivacious spirit will infuse ‘AGT’ in a big way.”
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve been obsessed with grandiose acts and performers who make the seemingly impossible possible,” Banks said in a statement released Sunday. “I love how ‘AGT’ brings that feeling into everyone’s home, capturing the best of people who come out and give it their all to make those big, fierce and outrageous dreams come true.”
Banks has plenty of experience hosting television programs as she served as the host of America’s Next Top Model for multiple seasons.
Cannon abruptly announced earlier this year that he was leaving AGT over a dispute regarding a comedy routine during a show in Los Angeles. According to Cannon, NBC was furious over his repeated use of the n-word during his set. He explained in great detail his decision to leave the program in this Facebook posting.
