2016 was an outstanding year for Black television, film and music. And it was those creative platforms being celebrated in Los Angeles on Saturday at the NAACP Image Awards. That’s where Denzel Washington and his Fences co-star Viola Davis both took home awards for their work in the film and Washington received a standing ovation for his moving acceptance speech.

Meanwhile Hidden Figures won Outstanding Motion Picture with Taraji P henson winning Outstanding Actress for her work in the film and for her role as Cookie Lyons on Empire.
