Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to getting very, very serious.
The new royal couple has been making headlines over the past few weeks due to their fast-paced romance. One minute, the pair is simply dating, and the next, Markle is sporting a necklace with his initials. Say whaaaaaat?
Earlier this week, the Suits actress was spotted out at a flower shop in Toronto, Canada, but it was the gold necklace with a tiny H and tiny M on it that folks zoomed in on. After giving the letters much thought, it’s safe to assume the H and M stand for Harry and Meghan.
Even though the couple has only dated for a few months, there are a few folks open to the idea of the pair settling down and tying the knot.
According to reports, Queen Elizabeth has already given her blessing on hopeful future nuptials and, per a recent statement released by Prince William, he too approves the courtship. “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” the statement read.
Another fan of this pairing is actress Elizabeth Hurley, who recently said on TODAY, “I’ve met her. I think she’s enchanting. To have someone who’s talented, successful, a woman of her own, gorgeous and American? I think it’s what the royal family needs, and I am behind it.”
There, however, hasn’t always been support behind Harry and Markle. In November, the Prince was forced to release a statement regarding the egregious mistreatment and disparaging remarks made about his interracial relationship with Los Angeles native.
“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” the statement read. “Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
According to the statement, the safety of Markle’s mother has also been in jeopardy; this includes the harassment of photographers who have apparently attempted to illegally enter her home in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles.
Meghan was born to an African-American mother and Dutch-Irish father.
“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” the statement read.
The comment suggested, “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”
