What’s an award show without a good ol’ fashioned stage storm?
If you tuned in for the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards, you were probably pleasantly surprised to see actor Lakeith Stanfield accept the award on behalf of HBO’s Silicon Valley. The only problem is … Stanfield is not on the show. Yikes.
After the popular series was announced as the big winner in the Best Comedy Series category, the audience happily gave a round of applause before Keith, star of FX’s Atlanta, all of a sudden jumped on stage for a fantastic thank you speech.
“I want to thank everybody for honoring us in this way,” the actor said. “We worked very hard on Silicon Valley and here are we. Thank you.”
The good news is, folks in the room seemed to be light-hearted about the bizarre and seemingly stolen moment. . “I have no idea who that was,” executive producer Tom Lassally said before tackling the rest of his acceptance speech.
Quite possibly, Keith’s onstage antics were due to Atlanta’s loss to the HBO series, which also beat out Black-ish, Fleabag, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Modern Family and Veep.
The actor took to Twitter following the show to simply remind his fans that he is “not crazy.” But we will let you be the judge of that.
Atlanta star Donald Glover did, however, take home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his hit show Atlanta. “It’s just great to work with people … no egos, there are no divas. I just really want to thank all the great television and the people who are making really great stuff right now.”
Glover’s co-star Brian Tyree Henry revealed to HipHollywood while on the blue carpet that he’s “really glad that he picked this crazy crowd of kids to come and tell this story. It’s been the best ride.”
