Black Lives Matter activist Darren Seals was found dead on Tuesday afternoon inside a burning car in St. Louis, MO.

According to law enforcement, officials received a call around 2 a.m. about a vehicle on fire in the Riverside area. After putting out the flames, officials found a man with a gunshot wound. The man was later identified as 29-year-old Seals.

The death of the Missouri resident, who led protests following the shooting death of Michael Brown, is being treated as a homicide.

St. Louis native, Nelly, took to Instagram to respond to the tragic news.

“Words can not express the shock,” the rapper wrote. “Darren seals (a stl activist) was found murdered in a burning car this morning,he was very influential, one of the few young black leaders we had in stl.. this has hurt more then our entire city of stl.. But young blackmen period ..!! #RIPDARRENSEALS ..!! You will be missed young brother.”

Seals, who described himself in his Twitter bio as a Revolutionary, Activist, Unapologetically BLACK and a Fighter, recently shared a story on Facebook about a recent encounter with St. Louis police, who arrantly drew guns on him and his younger brother.

RIP, Darren.
