Vic Mensa was detained on Thursday in Los Angeles after authorities suspected him and some associates of stealing merchandise from Barneys. The rapper claims he went on a $4,000 shopping spree at the department store before being detained. Thankfully, he documented parts of his encounter with law enforcement on Snapchat.
“Over here just giving a n*gga trouble for all types of stupid sh*t. We didn’t steal shi*. I go in Barneys and spend four racks and get accused of stealing.”

Mensa claims that despite being detained for stealing, officers had no idea what he or his friends may have stolen. “That’s the craziest part about it, I went and bought some ill Saint Laurent boots, some more sh*t from Barneys, and we get all pulled out the f*cking car and get accused of stealing. And on top of that, they don’t even know what they think we stole.”
“You can’t be a young black man out here doing anything legal, positive, and you still get treated like a criminal,” the rapper commented. “We don’t have to steal sh*t, man. We could buy nicer shit than you buy for your wife for her right now,” he says in the direction of one of the officers.
Why Mensa would elect to go to Barneys is beyond us. The department store is known for treating black and brown patrons like criminals. The store paid out $525,000 in a settlement over racial profiling back in 2014. Lesson to Mensa: Stop spending your money with people who don’t view you as worthy.
