In honor of the 2016 Olympics and Flashback Friday, HipHollywood dug into our archives and pulled out an interview with Gabby Douglas from August 2013 talking about prepping for the 2016 Olympics.

The then-17-year-old famous gymnast suggested that her regimen isn’t as strenuous as one might think. “Some people really do it intense, but I like to splurge a little,” she explained.

The athlete did, however, make sure to add that she keeps a lot of “protein, vegetables and fruits” in her diet.

Gabby is currently competing in the Olympic games in Rio and has been facing criticism from the haters following less-than-stellar trials. “Everyone makes mistakes,” Douglas said during a press conferences on Thursday. “After trials it was hard because there was a lot of negativity, but whatever. I’m shutting it all away.”

The Virginia native, who barely beat out Ashton Locklear for the last spot on the five-woman Rio team, added, “I feel like I always have to prove myself, no matter if I do good,” she added. “You know what? I’m just going to go out here and not listen to any negative thing and really shine bright. Do what I’m really capable of doing.”

Gabby will take on the women’s uneven bars, beam, vault, team all-around, floor exercise and individual all-around on Sunday, August 7. Go USA.
