The rally was coming to an end downtown when shots first rang out from elevated positions and then the ground in the area. Police have confirmed that there are three alleged suspects, two of which were snipers.

A fourth suspect was killed after a standoff with police. According to Chief David Brown of the Dallas Police Department, during negotiations inside the parking garage at El Centro Community College, the suspect claimed he was upset about Black Lives Matter, he was upset about recent police shootings, he was upset at white people and stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.
