This summer’s NBA free agency season left many proud Los Angeles Lakers fans disappointed with their team’s acquisitions. Many LA fans had hoped Kevin Durant would put on the purple and gold armor this season, helping to restore the team’s status as a dominant franchise.

Instead, KD didn’t even bother to meet with the Lakers. Now, thanks to a new interview, we know why. KD assures the Laker Nation, it’s not their fault, rather his own. “Nothing against the Lakers, but I already had my eyes set on who I wanted to talk to. It wasn’t nothing against the Lakers. I really respect their team, but I just felt like they were a couple of years away from where I wanted to be.”

Next season, KD will join Steph Curry and company on the Golden State Warriors, producing one of the most intimidating lineups in NBA history. Of course, in addition to burning the Lakers, Durant also broke the hearts of Oklahoma City Thunder fans after not re-signing with the squad.

As for whether his former ball-hog point guard Russell Westbrook was behind his decision to flee Oklahoma, Durant says in a chat with USA Today, “Nah, it wasn’t (a factor). I mean, obviously (that alleged subplot is) coming out now (that) I’m gone, all these reports are going to come out. I can’t really control it, but I just made a decision based on where I wanted to go, man. It was as simple as that. We can think about all the reasons and the factors and what factored in, but it was simple. That’s where I wanted to play basketball.”
