A$AP Rocky is not backing down from his comments about race relations, and Black Lives Matter, and he took to Twitter to let everyone know it.
Rocky posted the tweets after a year-old interview he did with TimeOut Magazine resurfaced Friday afternoon. Many took issue with Rocky’s comments about being involved in the Black Lives Matter movement and proceeded to slam him on social media.
When asked if he felt pressure to speak out and use his celebrity to help against police brutality, Rocky stated:
“They’re not forcing me to do s—. I’m just gonna stay black and die. Why, because I’m black? So every time something happens because I’m black I gotta stand up? What the f— am I, Al Sharpton now? I’m ASAP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist. I wanna talk about my mother—— lean, my best friend dying, the girls that come in and out of my life, the jiggy fashion that I wear, my new inspirations in drugs! I don’t wanna talk about no f——- Ferguson and s— because I don’t live over there! I live in f—— Soho and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate. I’m in the studio; I’m in these fashion studios; I’m in these b—— drawers. I’m not doing anything outside of that. That’s my life.”
Since the interview, the fashion-loving rapper has seemingly changed his tune and appeared in the recent “23 Ways” PSA with Alicia Keyes, Beyonce and Queen Latifah.
So, do you think Rocky has grown up over the last year, or was he just misquoted?
