The nation is in utter mourning and shock following the largest mass shooting in U.S. History.
A full-blown investigation is underway in Orlando where a gunman, identified as Omar Mateen, opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Orlando killing 49 people and injuring nearly 53 others.
On Monday morning, Mayor Buddy Dyer of Orlando confirmed that 48 of the 49 victims had been identified.
During the massacre at Pulse nightclub, the suspect called 911 and not only pledged allegiance to Isis, but also mentioned the Boston marathon bombers. It’s been confirmed that the shooter had a rifle, a handgun and another weapon in his car.
When law enforcement agencies arrived to the scene, a three-hour standoff ensued. The standoff, with dozens held hostage, ended with AWAT radioing the club with armored vehicles and explosives. The suspect was killed during a shootout with law enforcement.
Officials are currently investigating motives and ties to terrorism.
