The Weeknd did some damage control late Sunday night and apologized to Usher for misspeaking.
The singer took to Twitter following the Billboard Music Awards and raved about picking up a whopping eight awards during the night’s festivities, an accomplishment the 26-yer-old claimed was “more than any male in history.”
But it turns out, The Weeknd was dead wrong. Usher currently wears the crown for taking home 14 awards from the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. Oops.
Usher didn’t comment on the blunder, but we are sure the Weeknd’s apology was appreciated.
Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye, the singer’s legal name, took home the award for Top Hot 100 Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Song, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top R&B Album and Top Streaming Song (Audio).
