Snoop Dogg went on an Instagram tirade on Tuesday morning and blasted the HISTORY channel for airing the remake of Roots on Memorial Day.
In a video posted on the social media website, the rapper called for a boycott of the miniseries based on the 1977 highly acclaimed show, which also garnered 37 Emmy Award nominations.
“I’m sick of this sh*t. How the f*ck they going to put Roots on on Memorial Day,” he said. “They’re going to just keep beating that sh*t into our heads, how they did us, huh? I mean, I don’t understand America. They’re just going to want to keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But guess what: We’re taking the same abuse. Think about that part.”
Snoop continued, When y’all going to make a motherf*cking series about the success that black folks is having? The only success we have is Roots and 12 Years a Slave and sh*t like that, huh? F*ck y’all.”
The series, based on Alex Haley’s novel about an African slave and his descendants, stars Laurence Fishburne, Matthew Goode, T.I, Anna Paquin, Mekhi Phifer, Forest Whitaker and Anika Noni Rose.
HipHollywood caught up with Rose earlier this year who talked about filming the remake. “The story is allowed to continued. We really go into what happens after the Civil War so that’s really interesting and different.”
Roots the miniseries will air the next three nights at 9 pm on HISTORY.
