Last weeks episode of Black-ish’ went into some pretty dramatic terrain. Instead of their usual comical story lines and family drama, the Johnson’s dealt with something more serious, police brutality.
On the episode, titled “Hope,” a fictional news story about an unarmed black teenager who is tased dozens of times by a cop, becomes fodder for the family to discuss race, and the do’s and don’ts of dealing with the police. But while some deemed it controversial, Anthony Anderson says it was a story that hit close to home.
“We like to pride ourselves with dealing with timely and topical issues. And sometimes divisive issues that bring people together and spark that conversation,” Anderson told HipHollywood exclusively at the premiere for The Perfect Match . “That episode was near and dear to me because I myself was a victim of police brutality, like so many other people across the country. We made the show to talk about it and I think the audience responded to it well.”
