The 2016 Grammy Awards were full of impeccable performances and tributes; from Lady Gaga’s tribute performance to the late David Bowie, to Hollywood Vampire’s tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, it was a night of impressive music. Sadly, the Recording Academy did not cover all their bases, causing uproar amongst fans, celebrities and family members.

While the Grammys produced up their annual memorandum and showed the faces of the musical talents that lost their lives last year, there is one name that people felt deserved more than just a mere mention: Natalie Cole.

Cole passed away on New Years Eve of “idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension,” which ultimately led to heart failure. Cole was more than just a beautiful face with a stellar voice. She was a legend. An icon. She produced music that generations will play forever and ever. So many are wondering why was there not a tribute for Natalie?

“Sadly a FORGETTABLE tribute to Natalie Cole,” Cole’s sisters, Timolin andCasey, told ET following the awards show. “Words cannot express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister.”

Cole’s son also had something to say, telling the news outlet, “Here is a woman who has been in the business for four decades, had 21 GRAMMY nominations and won nine GRAMMYs. She deserves more than (to be a part of) a minute-and-a-half tribute. It was shameless the way they minimized her legacy. We will find solace in her legacy as well as her endless fans around the world.”

Natalie’s family weren’t the only ones who spoke out. Actress Holly Robinson Peete posted a lengthy message on Instagram that read:

“Truly disappointed the #Grammys didn’t think they should do a more extended tribute to Natalie Cole tonight. She was the first African American EVER to win for Best New Artist and her legacy in this business is unprecedented across all genres of music. The Unforgettable performances she had on the Grammys and over 4 decades of music should have been enough to bring out A list artists to tribute her…and no shade but I could suggest several numbers that could have been shorter- or not there at all -that could have been used to celebrate this wonderful artist. Hopefully BET awards will do an amazing tribute to her. PS: Stacey Dash: that’s why we have the #BET Awards when people of color do not get properly tributed on a mainstream award show then we celebrate them ourselves… see how that works?? smh #yesimsaltyAH tonight.”

During the music event, Lionel Richie, B.B King and The Eagles’ Glenn Frey all received tributes.
