Cam Newton is sick of talking about race.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback’s skin color has been a hot topic heading into this weekend’s Super Bowl, many questioning if those that dislike Newton only dislike him because he’s Black.
Cam was asked about the topic again on Tuesday during a press conference and he wasn’t here for it. “It’s not an issue. It’s an issue for you,” he told one reporter. “I don’t even want to touch on the topic of ‘black quarterback’ because I think this game is bigger than black, white or even green,”
Newton, who said we “limit ourselves” with labels, added “I want to bring awareness because of that, but yeah, I don’t think I should be labeled just a black quarterback. It’s bigger things in this sport that need to be accomplished.”
Newton isn’t the first Black QB to compete in a Super Bowl; Russell Wilson, Doug Williams, Colin Kaepernick, Donovan McNabb and Steve McNair have also competed for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Cam also made headlines earlier this week after being spotted in a pair of $849 Versace Yellow Barocco Zebra Print Jeans. A rep for Versace told us exclusively that the item, which the Internet went wild for, are completely sold out.
