The Flint water crisis has brought out the best in these celebs!
As more news is released about the dire situation in Flint, Michigan and the toxic, lead-filled water the residents were subjected to, more and more celebrities are offering a helping hand. Thousands of bottles of water and thousands of dollars have been sent to Flint to help and these are a few of the stars who are leading the charge.
As a Detroit native, Big Sean is all too familiar with the town of Flint, which is just an hour north. That’s why he stepped up and created the #HealFlintKids fundraiser with Crowdrise. Sean kicked in $10,000 to get things going and, for anyone who donates at least $10, they’ll have a chance to meet the rapper at his concert.
It may have started out as a beef with 50 Cent, but Meek Mill stepped up to the plate and delivered in a major way for Flint residents. The Philly rapper donated $50,000 to help Flint get clean water for it’s residents and challenged Fiddy to do the same.
Cher was one of the first celebs to bring attention to the crisis in Flint by tweeting about the tragedy and the corrupt government that allowed it to happen. Since then she has teamed up with Icelandic Glacial Water to donate more than 180,000 bottles of water to people in Flint.
Flint native and filmmaker Michael Moore, has really taken the lead on getting justice for the place he calls home. Not only did he start a petition for the arrest of Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder, he also has gone to several news outlets to accurately sum up the situation in Flint. He was even influential in bringing awareness of the situation to President Obama who, just recently, allocated $80 million to rebuild Flint’s water infrastructure.
In addition to these celebs, so many more, like Chris Brown and Young Jeezy, have brought attention to this situation by Tweeting, Facebooking, Instagramming and more. It really is amazing to see so many people stand up for the small city that needs some major help!
