Being crowned Miss Universe is every pageant girl’s dream; but could you imagine being crowned and it being a mistake? Well it happened, all thanks to talk show host, Steve Harvey.
On Sunday night, Harvey, who hosted the mega show in Las Vegas, accidentally crowned Ariadna Gutierrez, Miss Colombia as the winner. Epic fail. Turns out, it was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who should have been crowned and Miss Colombia as first runner up.
“Let me just take control of this,” Harvey said during the incredibly awkward moment. “This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card.”
Following the real announcement of the night’s winner, Miss Colombia looked devastated … as expected.
Unfortunately, the bad luck for the Family Feud host wasn’t over just yet.
Following the show, Steve apologized to both contestants and the fans for making the “human mistake.” But in his apology tweet, he misspelled both countries.
Harvey did however, delete and repost the tweet with the proper spelling, adding:
As for why Harvey messed the entire night up, turns out, it was teleprompter that misinformed him.
