The nation is morning yet again after another horrific mass shooting in Oregon.
On Thursday morning, a gunman, identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon killing nine people and injuring seven others. According to a surviving victim, Mercer was after Christians.
Anastasia Boylan told her father and brother that the gunman, who is now also dead, ordered Christians to stand up. And when they did, he said they were going to meet God very soon.
Officials say Mercer had body armor and was heavily armed, with a large amount of ammunition.
President Obama briefed the nation during a press conference on Thursday, expressing his concern that mass shootings are still occurring. “I hope and pray that I don’t have to come out again in my tenure as president to offer my condolences to families under these circumstances. But based on my experience as president, I can’t guarantee that,” Obama said.
“We collectively are answerable to those families, who lose their loved ones because of our inaction,” POTUS explained. “I would particularly ask America’s gun owners, who are using those guns properly, safely, to hunt, for sport, or protecting their families, to think about whether your views are properly being represented by the organization that suggests it’s speaking for you.”
Celebrities also took to social media to express their condolences following this egregious crime.
